ESSAY IDEA

I think a good topic for an essay to right is how getting the most for your money and time contributes to obesity. This would be a persuasive essay because everyone has to persuade how it does contribute. This will help with writing because persuasive essays can be one of the easiest papers to write, you have your own opinion on a subject, and you stick to it and explain why you believe in your opinion. Starting out with a simple essay will help get our minds thinking in terms of writing and essays and where we will need to improve. For example, vocabulary, sentence structure, or essay formatting! All these things are important in writing an essay and if they are not there, writing a more difficult essay is impossible.

PROSE AND CONS: OBESITY

TEXT ANALYSIS #1

In Supersize Me, a normal guy decides to test the fast food system, McDonald's in his case, by trying an experiment which puts his health in danger. The goal of this, is he wants his viewers to become aware of just how bad the food they eat on a daily basis truly is! The experiment is, three times a day (every meal) he eats McDonald's for one whole month. If the worker at McDonald's asks him, "Do you want to supersize that?", he has to do it. So, for this whole month, his movie shows the horrible effects on his body. He becomes sick, has a lot less energy, and even his mood takes a tool.

IT'S ALL LATIN TO ME

dimidium facti qui coepit habet: sapere aude, incipe
This phrase can be translated to, who has begun has half done: dare to be wise, begin.
The way I would interpret this is Beginning is usually the hardest thing to do with anything you don't really want to do. So, once you start you have already made progress in your journey and the hardest part is over.

THIS IS PHAT!

http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/301680/Super-Size-Me/overview
In this documentary, an average person does an experiment of eating McDonald's three times a day, for a whole month. The movie shows the bad effects of fast food on a human body. The effects people really need to see to believe how bad it is for you.

A Truly Interesting Piece of Non-Fiction

An interesting story I read this weekend was about the latest news on Area 51. Rumors have always been lead on about Area 51 and whether it was true or not. Hollywood movies even portrayed it. But, recently the government finally acknowledged its "existence". This base held top-secret research information that the government never verified. Recently, it became public that Area 51 was a Cold War test site for technology. It was also used illegally to dump hazardous waste. Workers would be on site while the government set fire to hazardous waste. The smoke through the air lead to skin and respiratory problems that these workers filed law suits for. Throughout this law suit, the government denied Area 51 existed and did everything they could to keep it that way. The government ended up avoiding the charges, but the secret is now public.

My Opinion Isn't A Right

-People talk about you not to you
-Big people make little people's opinion feel small
-INTERDEPENDENCE depend on others
-Myth of the world, one man or woman against the world (nobody hangs alone)
-Can't do anything without having an impact on others
Limbic- emotional ..... develop emotions before you talk

Intellectual- sophisticated part based on being mammals ... social animals

Repitilium- governs automatic parts of body

REFLECTIONS ON WEEK 1
1. I do not think there will be any major factors that will hinder my participation in this class. I think it will only help me. English is one of the classes where you are constantly printing essays or random articles, but with everything being done online, less ink! No more last minute "Oh no, I have no ink."

2. The greatest learning experience I ever encountered was my junior year of high school. Yes, just last year. This happened because I hosted a foreign exchange student from Norway. I learned so much culturally about a whole different country on a whole different continent! I was learning but didn't even know it. For a whole year, I learned what her normal was. I also learned some Norwegian along the way. This experience of learning was worth it. I was unaware, but learning so much!

3. In this class, I'm most excited about seeing this blog develop. At the end of the year I would like to go back and review all we did in the class and see how my vocabulary, writing skills, and overall curriculum improved. I think it will change the way I look at learning. I will have more then just the traditional method of a textbook and therefore I am more open to new ideas!

What the $%&@! is "Expository Composition"?

Expository composition is all based on writing. But, in detail and description! You will be writing composition with a lot of detail! These compositions are used to give information as well.
My Big Question

I have always wanted to know how people invented things! Yes, they put materials together and made something, but I mean how they thought to invent something and how they thought what materials would blend to make their invention work. An answer that would make a difference in MY life, is a spot in the ocean where there are no sharks, because then I would feel completely at ease to surf! Also, that would help the community and world because there are plenty of surfers out there! I wish I could invent a teleporter that could transport you anywhere in an instant, free of charge! A problem I want to solve is the school spirit in our school honestly! It would be great to have an upbeat, lively school full of pride!
